Coach ed

My consulting practice over the past 19 years has focused on how to optimize high organizational and high human performance. My Learn or Die; Humility Is the New Smart; and Hyper-Learning books focused on the right Mindsets, Behaviors and Processes (Daily Practices) that will enable individuals to excel in the Digital Age.

Humans will have meaningful work in the Digital Age if they can add value in ways that the smart technology can’t. That basically comes down to thinking differently than the technology and being able to build positive emotional relationships with others. By thinking differently, I mean creative, innovative, and emergent thinking; and higher order critical thinking where you do not have lots of data or where you must go into the unknown and figure it out.

My work is very behavioral—focusing on the key behaviors that will help one add value in the Digital Age.

For example, assume you want to become a better listener so you can be a more effective thinker and a more effective collaborator. To do that you need to define granularly what observable behaviors would evidence that you are a good Reflective Listener and what observable behaviors would evidence that you are not a good Reflective Listener. Then you need to put in place an Action Plan to increase the desired behaviors and to decrease the negative behaviors, which includes accountability and measurements. To do that, you need to enlist the help of colleagues who can give you feedback on a very frequent basis so you can continuously improve.

I have been a big fan for well over a decade of Marshal Goldsmith’s approach to Leadership Coaching. His “Stakeholder Centered Coaching ©” process is behavioral-based and fits perfectly with my work. He has been recognized repeatedly for years as one of the Best Leadership Coaches in the World. His “Stakeholder Centered Coaching ©” process is recognized world-wide as a highly effective leadership behavior transformation process and the data confirms that.

I am honored to announce that I have become a certified Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coach and I will add his behavioral based “Stakeholder Centered Leadership Coaching” © process to my consulting work.

From a Coaching perspective, I want to work with leaders who want to excel in the Digital Age and who want to help all their employees excel. That will require leaders in most cases to adopt new behaviors and/or to improve existing behaviors in the pursuit of the highest levels of human performance cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally.

The Digital Age will require all of us to take our “game” to a higher level. If you would like to explore this, please reach out: HessE@Darden.virginia.edu
